True Prevention and Treatment.
FRUSTRATED WITH YOUR HEALTH
If you are frustrated by the condition of your health you are probably not alone. Just about everyone feels unwell.
Fatigue, vague headaches, sleeping difficulties and anxiety. What about back pain, acne, painful menses.
These kinds of vague symptoms do not constitute recognised diseases, and therefore are not considered suitable for medical management.
But that does not mean that the symptoms are normal. Even the WHO agrees. According to the WHO health is state of complete physical, psychological and social wellbeing, Not the mere absence of disease. I tend to agree with them.
So why is everyone so unwell?
Our health status reflects biological processes occurring at a cellular level. Modern life, the move away from nature facilitated by technological advancement which has accelerated since the industrial revolution and reached a feverish pace since the information revolution, causes disease directly through exposure to toxins and technology and indirectly by encouraging disease promoting diets, lifestyle and behaviour.
This situation is not intentional, but it is very profitable. It is responsible for ballooning healthcare expenditure world-wide, and the growth of corporations that profit from human suffering. This profit is not coincidental, it is the result of systematic planning and detailed execution of those plans.
When symptoms hit the threshold to call themselves diseases treatment is almost always pharmacological.
Have you noticed that when a new treatment exists a new syndrome is invented?
These causes include nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, immune dysregulation, intestinal hyperpermeability and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth amongst others.
Modern medicine struggles with this paradigm for two reasons. Doctors and Medicine have emerged form an acute care model where people were considered health until afflicted by a short-term health crisis. The crisis was treated, and we implicitly trusted the body to work towards balance by itself afterwards. This can work well in infections, surgeries and injuries, which medicine manages expertly. But chronic disease is different. It results from years and even decades of persisting low level cellular stress and dysfunction. By the time the disease emerges the cellular balancing processes, known as homeostasis, are broken. The second reason is the pervasive and pernicious influence of industry at all levels. Training, drug approval, guideline development, regulatory oversight. Billions spent yearly on loyybing with excellent returns on investment.
While Chronic Disease Management can extend life and improve functionality, it does not address the underlying cellular dysfunctions that cause Chronic Disease and vague unwellness.
Non-orthodox medical models, like functional medicine, often do, however. True prevention of illness should involve interventions that IMPROVE your health. And true treatment should do the same.
